  • Fabulous Fabrics - Meet Kaffe Fassett

Inspiring fabrics are a source of immense joy to me. Fabrics bring life to the patterns I design and each is chosen especially for the feeling and drape; they are an essential part of my process from concept to completion. Lately, I’ve been inspired by the work of Kaffe Fassett and I think you’ll be as enchanted with his original designs as I am.

    Kaffe Fasset

Kaffe is an internationally renown textile designer. As a skilled fine artist in his teens he won a scholarship to The Boston Museum of Fine Arts School. A move to England led him to discover a new passion: knitting and designing knitwear. Kaffe’s brilliantly colourful work in needlepoint, patchwork, and knitwear has appeared in the pages of Vogue and on famous figures like Barbra Streisand and Lauren Bacall. He has collaborated with top brands such as Coach and Missoni, participated in various exhibitions and solo shows, published a multitude of books and patterns, and won numerous awards. In short, Kaffe is considered a guru in the world of colour and textiles.

Flowers play a prominent role in Kaffe’s designs. His “Antique Chrysanthemum” print is explosively beautiful, and will be available as a limited edition Rhapsody Coat soon.

Kaffe’s love of florals and colour has come full circle – a rose has been named after him by one of the most prestigious rose producers in the world. It is a floribunda rose in shades of vivid hot pink and hints of deep lilac, with a wonderful fragrance.

Kaffe might now be best known for his stunning array of 100% cotton fabrics. These kaleidoscopic images showcase Kaffe’s love of colour play and juxtaposition with the pinwheels and mandalas seeming to spin through space while maintaining a relationship through pattern and scale. The larger sizes of his botanical prints reveal masterful details that are usually overlooked.

We hope that knowing more about Kaffe will make wearing these items that much more special for you. Fabrics can take your clothing beyond being an average garment to becoming an artistic creation of sublime enjoyment for years to come.

Look Good, Feel Good Beauty Tips

As we have mentioned before, we have been lucky enough to have Leah Tuttle representing the Diane Kennedy and Cherry Velvet brands since their inception. Leah and her commitment to our brands, as well as her hard work and feedback, have been an integral part of the success of our company.

One of Leah's many talents is her eye for fashion and also beauty. During our recent photoshoot with Leah acting as our model, we couldn't help but delight at the gorgeous makeup and beauty look that she put together for the session. I even quizzed Leah on her lipstick colour and then went right out and purchased it myself! (It was Marc Jacobs le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon in Plum N Get it).

We asked Leah if she would share some of her favourite beauty tips so that we could all benefit from her expertise. After all, it's always fun when someone else recommends something, isn't it?

Makeup Starts with A Good Base

Leah's beauty routine includes an anti-aging serum, skin polish and moisturiser she's created for her own new line of products called Wildcraft Organics. (coming soon to WildcraftOrganics.ca ) Leah has beautiful skin, but as a base she uses Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation added with a Beauty Blender sponge. Next she applies a loose powder over her skin using a big fluffy brush to keep it light and airy. Before applying any eyeshadow she uses an eye primer - like Too Faced Shadow Insurance - and then applies MAC eyeshadows in Sketch and Cranberry using an eyeshadow brush. Eyeliner is Lancome Liner Plume in Noir. Eyebrows are next, and are lightly filled in with an Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade.

    It's All About the Lips!

I have always loved a good lip colour, and no matter the season, I find a pretty berry lip colour or a red lipstick can make you go from drab to fab. Leah was wearing the Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Crayon on the day of our photoshoot, but also recommends MAC Spice it Up and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovesick as some of her favourites.

Whether you are someone that changes your makeup seasonally or just want to add a little something new to your makeup routine, these are fun beauty tips that could be easily incorporated into your existing look.

Thanks Leah for your recommendations! As usual, you look fabulous (and we love your Teal nail polish too!)
