  • Support Local

Published May 22 2020 in Behind the Scenes, diane kennedy, eco friendly, environmentally friendly, fashion industry, garment manufacturing, inspiration, Made in Canada, shop local, Vancouver fashion, women in business

As we adjust to the "New Normal", we realize the importance of strengthening our economy through our local businesses and industries. When you wear a piece from us, we're proud to say that it is truly “Made In Canada”. There are so many ways our business supports other local businesses.

Along with our commitment to producing our line using eco-friendly, sustainable methods when possible, our mission statement has also always included using local vendors.

From our team to our agents, every step of Diane's process involves a Canadian, likely local, element. Through your support, we're able to design and produce more collections - thus, giving back to our economy, as we continue to work with our Canadian factories and suppliers. Everything from the boxes we ship with, our hangtags and labels, all our printed products, even the zippers we use are Made In Canada.

    Thank You Notes

While our fabric comes from Montreal, most everything else involved is purchased locally. One of the things we're most proud of is that all our garments are manufactured from 3 local factories in Vancouver. We think it's wonderful that these factories offer supportive, flexible work environments for their employees, ensuring that they're able to take care of their families, while still being able to work.

    DK Factory & Label

Even down to our shipping methods, we're proud to support our Canadian shipping company, along with Canada Post.

In an effort to continue to be actively conscientious, we are pleased to release a collection of high-quality face masks. This is in response to an announcement by Canada's chief public health officer, Dr. Tam, recommending that we endeavour to wear these to help everyone stay safe. We hope offering these will help you feel safe (and stay stylish).

Our pledge to support the local community endeavors to show how much we value our home, as much as our garments. Thank you to you for making Diane Kennedy possible. ❤️

  • A Gander At Our Entire Spring 2020 Collection

Published Mar 27 2020 in bamboo, Behind the Scenes, catalogue, diane kennedy, ethical fashion, online shopping, Spring Catalogue, Spring Fashion, spring looks, Vancouver fashion

We thought you might enjoy seeing something we've never shown you before...our original Spring catalogue. It's not normally something we do. Because we release it so far in advance, things get deleted or changed. It's the catalog we create to show our retail stores so they can make their buying decisions.

Please understand that some of these designs, ultimately, may not get produced. Additions are made too, like for example, the Mandala Print in our Sightsee Shirt, along with the Regency print on the Waterfront Dress featured on Page 7. You can see below how well these prints go together!

    Mandala and Regency Prints

Currently, our local factories are still in production for this year's Spring collection, despite these difficult times. Our factories do not have the option of working from home, unfortunately. Although mindful of social distancing standards, Diane remarked that on her most recent visit to one of our factories, they took care to check her temperature prior to entering the facility. We're so glad that they're taking the necessary precautions to keep their workers safe.

So here's your inside look at how Diane originally designed her Spring collection. We always love feedback and comments, so share and share alike :)

We hope you enjoy this "Virtual Fashion Show" in your own home and sincerely wish everyone safety and good health.

  • This week's Studio Shop amidst COVID-19

Published Mar 19 2020 in appointment, Behind the Scenes, cleaning, customer service, customers, diane kennedy, fashion industry, local, Made in Canada, online shopping, personal service, personal shopping, Vancouver fashion, women in business

During these most uncertain times, we have made the decision to move forward with our usual bi-weekly public Studio Shops. Our last one for this month will start tomorrow (Friday, March 20th) from 2-7pm and ends on Saturday (March 21st) from 11-5pm. We’d like to talk about this decision, and assure our guests that our space is a safe environment to shop in.

We appreciate the importance of social distancing at this time and we're very lucky that here at Diane Kennedy, we typically don’t have much close contact. Our Studio Shops are managed by 1-2 of our team and outside of our public Shop
Days, our studio is only available via appointment.

To that end, we have decided to open up for shopping amidst the current COVID-19 situation, because we are a small business. We remain a staple in your wardrobe, because you, our wonderful customers, take the time to support us. Your regular shopping mall retailer will receive hundreds of customers and be manned by over a dozen staff members on any given day. That is a lot of exposure, which is why we understand shutdowns, city-wide. However, for us, much of our business is done online, and only a limited number of guests will visit us, physically. That being said, we want to be able to offer our local customers the opportunity to try on our garments and be fitted professionally, while giving us another avenue to make our items available.

In our province (British Columbia), social gatherings of over 50 people have been canceled until further direction. Thankfully, our studio’s capacity is about 10 people at maximum, and we normally have under 5 guests at a time. This means our studio complies with this current regulation and there is more than enough room to keep your distance from others while shopping.

Of course, we maintain a high level of standards regarding hygiene and have our bathrooms equipped with locally-made hand soaps (by Barefoot Venus) for those wishing to use them.

We politely ask that if you or someone very close is ill, that you stay home and rest. We are always available online and should you have any questions about our garments, we are only a Facebook message or email away (info[at]dianekennedy.ca)!

One more reason why we’d still like to open up shop? Spring is here! New Arrivals have been trickling in. As well as making them available online, we want any locals interested, to be able to try these new items on. Even during periods of seclusion, taking some time for yourself, dressing up for the day and treating yourself well can have a powerful impact on your mood. Positivity and self-care is so important at such a trying time for all.

We hope that you'll join us this weekend

  • Behind the Scenes at Our Fall Photoshoots

Published Aug 22 2019 in Behind the Scenes, diane kennedy, Eco-friendly garments, Fall 2019, Fall Fashion, inspiration, shop local, tunics, Vancouver fashion

Each photoshoot that we do for Diane Kennedy takes some time and planning ahead. Since we are doing more frequent, smaller fashion releases, we have been doing photoshoots more often. We love featuring photos of our clothes outdoors to take advantage of natural light and the beautiful greenery in Vancouver! The beautiful Momiji Gardens at Hastings Park is a Japanese style garden and a little hidden gem along East Hastings Street. It is close to our office (bonus!) and always fairly quiet.

Soft Shirt, Diane Kennedy, Tunics, Made in Canada

For part of our Fall collection, Diane has brought back the Soft Shirt, this time in Steel grey. It looks great paired with a pair of pants for the office, or jeans for a weekend or more casual look. We have it paired with our popular Flex Pants, and with our new striped Gallery Vest, which is a new piece for Fall 2019. Scarlett is also sporting a favourite pair of fabulous Fluevogs - the Zenobia which is a slingback wedge heel. The Gallery Vest is a piece that is very versatile - it could be worn over our Perfect Top, and yet still light enough to go under a coat.

We have a system down when it comes to transporting our clothing and accessories to various outdoor locations for our fashion photoshoots. This handy vintage train case is from Diane's personal collection, and has been toted around the Lower Mainland a lot! Of course, we love our Fluevog shoes and tend to use them often when styling Diane Kennedy clothing.

City Tunic, Diane Kennedy, Fashion, Made in Canada

The City Tunic in steel with black stripes is another new colour way for Fall. It is an easy-to-wear design, has a flattering crew-neck, 3/4 sleeves and of course, a pocket! In this photo we paired it with the Balance Pant and the necklace is by Bellalili (bracelets are Scarlett's own). The weather was really warm, but we found some great shady spots for photos.

Makeup touchups, especially when shooting Fall clothing in the heat of summer are inevitable! Scarlett brought her own lip colours but was enamoured with Diane's new MAC lipstick in You're So Vain (it's fabulous!). Logan, our in-house photographer, is always a pro at scouting great spots to photograph in-between set-ups and changes, so we are often complete in record time.

You will see more of Momiji Garden in our upcoming Fall photos!
