Tofino: Where the ocean and land intersect

Tofino is a beautiful, magical place to visit. On the west side of Vancouver Island and open to the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, the hypnotic waves are a huge part of its charm. Surrounded by ancient forests, each of the many beaches offer different experiences and wave intensity. It's a wonderful place to go for a romantic getaway.Cox Bay Beach at SunsetLong Beach is probably the best known of all the beaches with big waves for surfing. We stopped for an hour or so on the way to our resort and enjoyed walking along the sand collecting shells and taking photos. We were so lucky to have the most beautiful weather in March, it was 'almost' like we had the beach to ourselves.

Whenever I go to Tofino, I always stay on Cox Bay beach. There are several lovely resorts to choose from there. The beach is just the right size to walk from end to end with a morning coffee and there’s always something interesting to see. It attracts a lot of surfers with its moderate intensity waves. I wore my new Eden Floral Shirt in Kyoto Red to explore that morning.

My most favourite thing to do is explore the rocks and tide pools at low tide. And what better place to wear my new Outgoing Octopus Eden shirt?

At the north end of Cox Bay is a peninsula that you can hike along for fantastic views. There are even a few caves to explore if you can find them. We had fun trying.

Depending on how agile you are there are lots of rocks to climb around and explore the treasures they hold. But always respect the power of the ocean. We each had our own close call!

My other favourite beach is a short drive north: Chesterman and South Chesterman beach. Divided by a sandbar between the two beaches (at low tide) you can walk out to Frank’s Island which is privately owned, but there is still plenty to explore out there at the shoreline. It’s the best place I've found to find all manner of sea creatures and see them close up. My partner captured a photo of me wearing the Eden Floral Shirt in Pink Millefiore with some starfish friends.

There are so many unforgettable experiences to be had around Tofino. Of course, there’s lots of other things to do; explore the town, eat at wonderful restaurants, visit art galleries and take a whale watching tour. But the intersection where land meets water will always hold the most fascination for me.
