Model Spotlight :: Scarlett Ballantyne

Scarlett Ballantyne modeling Diane Kennedy clothingMeet Scarlett

Modelling for Diane Kennedy off and on for about 10 years, Scarlett is always a pleasure to work with and brings a fresh, professional look to the clothes.  She really knows how to show our clothing in the best light, while still being fun and relatable.

We had a chance to ask her a few questions recently and gather her thoughts about being a model and working with a brand like us.

What do you do when you're not being a supermodel?

My number one job is being the CEO of my household! I am definitely the "momager" in my family, but I also work part-time doing social media managing and some other small creative ventures. My education is in Interior Design and Fine Arts; however, I stopped working full-time when my kids got to school age. Soon it may be time to go back to full-time work as my youngest graduates high school next year.

How did you become a model for Diane Kennedy?

I had modelled in my teens and early twenties (see the darling 80’s photos below!) and then joined an agency again around 10 years ago. Through that agency, I met Diane. Since then, we have worked together on and off, and I have definitely grown and become more comfortable modelling again through her direction and mentorship. I have also worked in makeup for several years, and have ended up doing some modelling through that, also.

Once the photos started being published, can you describe how it felt to see your photos on social media and our website?

Like many women, my body has changed a lot over my twenties and thirties. Now that I am nearing fifty, sometimes it’s a struggle to embrace all of the things that age brings. I am confident working with Logan as a photographer, and his kind and gentle manner puts me at ease. Seeing the DK photos after a shoot always makes me realize that I should be happy being the best I am, at the age I am at, rather than wishing I was where I used to be. Diane knows how to cut clothes that flatter a woman’s body, and so instead of seeing flaws, I see a beautiful woman in the photos.

Would you say modelling in your late 40's has been a positive experience?

Getting back into modelling a little bit later in life was a little daunting – even 10 years ago we weren’t seeing so many older models in mainstream media. So at first, I was self-conscious about my age and probably my weight too, even though I am sure I had nothing to worry about. For the past several years, I have had some personal struggles that really sent me into a dark place. Getting back to work for Diane was truly the start of beginning to feel like myself again. It has been a confidence and self-esteem builder and I am always grateful for the opportunity. The smiles you see in her photos are genuine!
