Purely Canadian: Clean, Green, and Proudly Made

I've always focused on designing and creating my clothing from quality materials right here in Canada. This year, one of my goals was to switch to Canadian beauty and health brands that match these values; products made with clean, botanical ingredients that are safe for my body and skin.

Where to start? Toothpaste and deodorant were my two top contenders for changing to natural products. I realized I'd been brushing with toothpaste that's not safe to swallow and deodorant made with (toxic) aluminum. When you think about it, this unwanted ingredient gets spread right on top of your lymph nodes!

I've discovered so many great products! Emboldened with wonderful results I am continuing to replace all my make-up, skincare and homecare products with natural Canadian made products. I'd like to share what I've found with you!

Toothpaste

Green Beaver has great flavours and works great without all the unwanted chemicals that traditional brands have. I love the Zesty orange flavour. Cinnamon and Mint are also great. I've also tried Tanit tabs which are a tablet you crush in your mouth and then brush. My mouth feels extra clean and the best thing is being rid of the tube that ends up in the landfill.

Deodorant

Tanit is the best deodorant I've ever tried. It really works, smells delicious and better yet, I smell good for 24 - 48 hours! I LOVE the Yuzu Verbena scent. This deodorant does not contain baking soda like other 'natural' brands which I found really irritated my skin.

Soap

Rocky Mountain Soap Co. is based in Alberta, this brand handcrafts toxin-free bath and skincare and with an emphasis on natural ingredients. Their lemongrass soap bars and bath bombs smell divine!

Hair Products

AG Hair products are made without the parabens and drying sulfates that traditional brands contain. Combining nature and science, they select the highest quality ingredients to develop formulas that deliver results. I've switched all my haircare to these products because they smell wonderful and work great for my curly, frizzy hair. I love the Colour Savour Shampoo and conditioner and Re:coil Curl activator and frizz tamer.

If you're looking for a Shampoo and Conditioner BAR, try Jack 59, an indigenous-owned company creating all natural, ph-balanced, plastic free and cruelty free products in Edmonton, Alberta. They are best known for their haircare products, especially their shampoo and conditioner bars, which are wonderful.

Skincare

A Vancouver based company since 2001, Viva Health Skincare creates natural, results-driven formulas that are plant-based and cruelty-free. Amaze Cream moisturizer is my favourite as it's fluffy, smells good and soaks right into my skin.  It also works beautifully as a primer, creating a smooth canvas for makeup.

Beauty Through Balance offers a spa line rooted in holistic, therapeutic care, using sustainably harvested Pacific seaweed, wild chaga mushroom, and Canadian glacial clay from British Columbia’s northern coast. Their Green Tea Indian Spice Body Serum smells heavenly and makes your skin so soft and glowy. The Pacific Seaweed Facial Moisturizer is also phenomenal and very soothing on the skin. It smells like a fancy spa

Make-up

Beauty from Bees naturally handcrafts products made without synthetic fragrances, only pure essential oils. Probiotic and antioxidant infused for health and skin benefits. Their Natural Mascara is every bit as good as my 'old' mascara brands but with 100% natural ingredients. It's safe for sensitive eyes: Free from toxins, synthetics, and irritants. Also gentle enough for contact lens wearers!

It's so cool that Naturally Wyld is 100% natural, free from preservatives, GMO, and synthetic additives, with natural pigmented colour derived from real fruits and vegetables! These are products truly safe for your lips and skin!  I love the Multi Colour Cream made from berries and beet root.  One stick for lips (more of a light lip stain) cheeks and eyes.

This is just a small sample of the wonderful things we make here in Canada!  There’s something truly powerful about choosing Canadian-made.  When you buy local brands, you’re backing thoughtful ingredient sourcing, ethical production, and a smaller environmental footprint. And I'm all for that!
