A mystery most stylish is afoot at Diane Kennedy - So we're packing our bags! (in more ways than one...)
Come the end of June, our East Vancouver doors will close and our operations will be moving to New Westminster. More details on this to come; for the latest update, we invite you to sign up for our newsletter (which will give you 15% off your first purchase!)
In the meantime, starting today, we are offering something we've never done before...
Diane is filling a limited number of "bags", with some of her favourite pieces - You'll find one-of-a-kind looks, along with a variety of samples. In fact, many of these items have never been available online! Due to size availability, at this time, we will be offering these in size Small, Medium, Large, and X-large only here.
Whether you're one of our regular customers or have been wanting to try our signature bamboo styles, this is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself or someone else to a little surprise.
Just a peek of some of the pieces you may find...
For a limited time, we're offering 5 items per bag with a regular retail value of at least $650 for $100 plus free shipping! All are Made in Canada at our local factories.
I came home from work today and told my son: "Mom's a little grumpy right now, you might not want to be around me."
My son says: "Mom, maybe you should buy some shoes" (True story)
All cheekiness aside, this weekend is Mother's Day, and as a mum myself, I am so proud of my wonderful son.
Scott just turned 25 this year and is in the 'forgotten' graduating class of 2020. He just completed his degree in computer engineering and it was straight into the workforce for him. In fact, he's already landed a full time job programming games at a local company.
Right now, I'm so thankful that his new job has him working from home and we're both grateful for that opportunity during this crazy time. It's not the quantity but the quality of time spent and I think it's so sweet he took some time to snap a few fun photos together, as a Mother's Day treat. 💓
I couldn't be more proud of him. And can't wait to see where he goes from here.
Tip of the hat in recognition
To all devoted women and mothers,
Your love, care, strength, and devotion
Knows no bound like earth's weather
Like the morning star you shine
And lit the path to life;
Like a great messiah you fine
Rest for the family you have.
The laughter of your children always
Excite you and fills you with joy.
Through thick and thin you always
Stick around to show your love;
You're an embodiment of life's greatest gift;
For you're twenty persons in one for us:
You're a teacher and a great therapist,
You're a doctor and a great nurse,
You're a chef and a great baker
You're a driver and a great instructor
You're a daughter and great mother
You're a guardian and a great protector
You're a supporter and great superwoman
You're a queen and a great matriarch
You're a homemaker and a great career woman
You're an archetype of motherhood and matriarch.
Whoever said: "Jack of all trades, master
Of none" has never met you, in your home;
Like the great Elephant matriarch You master
The best skills and route of motherhood
~ A B Faniki
💖Wishing everyone a wonderful Mother's Day💖
Amid the hustle & bustle of everyday life, coupled with the constant barrage of news media coverage, it's important to set aside quiet time for yourself; to breathe deep and be present where you are.
One of the best ways to accomplish this, is through mindful meditation. While potentially overwhelming (or perhaps boring), there are many ways one can meditate...and it doesn't involve downward dogs, or sitting cross-legged on the floor (unless that's your thing!)
Mandalas (like the one below) are not only beautiful to look at, they're also very effective meditation tools. They traditionally represent wholeness and can be interpreted as a diagram for the relationship between "the infinite" and the world that extends beyond/within the mind and body.
There are several ways to meditate using a mandala - We've taken the time to create a simple colouring page (based off our Mandala Print featured on our Sightsee Shirt) and we invite you to print it off (click the image for a larger, printable copy) and spend some time with your creative spirit.
We'd love to see how you interpret our mandala. Feel free to send us photos of your completed work of art on Facebook or tag us at @dianemkennedy on Instagram.
Wishing you a wonderful & peaceful Easter Long Weekend!
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. - Desiderata, Max Ehrmann
Here at Diane Kennedy, I have an amazing team and have been lucky enough to watch two of our members go from coworkers to a couple, within months, and stay happily in love. It's been so sweet to watch!
Enter Logan - Our Art Director, Photographer and all around Jack of All Trades, and Tracy - Our Client Services Support, Marketing Assistant and all around Jill of All Trades.
When Tracy started in August 2015, she brought with her a positive, creative force of energy that echoed what Logan brought to DK when he started here in 2013. Working so closely together, it was only a matter of time before Cupid shot his arrow.

As they worked closely together, they learned that they shared many common interests - like graphic design and photography. Both driven and motivated, they came together as a creative team and by Feb.1, 2016, they ended up being a loving team in their personal lives, too.

4 years and many photoshoots later, Logan and Tracy continue to be as dedicated to their work life as they are to their personal lives together. They feel so blessed to get the chance to work together every day. Spending your work life and personal space may not be for everyone, but these two lovebirds bring a warmth and joy that has always been a part of our brand. It's a great feeling to know I work with people who really love their jobs and each other.
There is so much negativity around shopping, body image and fashion in general. How about Happy Shopping? What if you could shop for clothes that were designed by people who not only understood your body shape and how to fit it properly but also really GOT you? How often do you have a happy shopping experience? The truth is, there are companies that exist right now run by women just like you, who want to give you a positive experience every time you shop. They do exist!
Staying in the moment.
When I had my own retail store that catered to sizes 10-24 you wouldn't believe how many people would spend their time, in my shop, that catered to them, talking about how there was nothing out there for them. That may be true but right then, at that moment they were standing in a space that was inspired by their wants and needs. A safe, happy space with quality clothing and lots of choices IN THEIR SIZE. It's kind of like going on a date with someone for the first time and spending the whole time talking about all the bad dates you've been on. I don't blame them at all, it's like being triggered by a trauma or something. One of the reasons I love working at Diane Kennedy is that I find it so easy to help create a happy, positive experience for our shoppers AND we have the goods to back it up.
They totally get me!
What a wonderful feeling it is to enter a space that honours who you are. In many cases, it's because the people who created that space are a lot like you. Or maybe they just possess the empathy needed to make you feel welcome and comfortable when you enter their space, whether that's a retail store or an online store. Those are the businesses you want to support.
You do You.
This year I turn 53. So far my 50's have been pretty great. At this time in my life I have a pretty clear idea about the battles I want to fight. Shopping isn't one of them. There are so many different types of folks out there and everyone has their own shape, size, and story. I'm done with being pissed off because a store doesn't carry my size. They aren't after my dollar and I'm not their customer. That's okay. I'm sure they are filling a need for someone out there or they would have gone out of business long ago. I do think that cheaply made fast fashion is bad for everyone and there's no excuse for badly cut and poorly fitted clothing, but that hasn't made me immune to it. We're all just doing our best to get dressed in the morning without regretting what we are wearing all day. Right?
Look, fashion and clothing isn't everything, but it is something. All I know is when I feel well dressed I find it pretty darned easy to feel good about myself. It gives me confidence. It's one less thing to worry about.
I will leave you with this story...
I ordered some cotton underpants online. You know the type that comes in all sizes and 5 in a package. They fit ok but not great. I didn't want to return them and they were a good price but they ended up being second stringers right away. Never the first ones out of the drawer and only worn when it was laundry day. I decided to order a different style the next time and also to go up a size. When I got my package I unrolled the first pair and they were just enormous looking, full coverage, what I might call a granny panty. My first thought was to send them straight back but then I decided to try them on for a laugh. The laugh was on me because omg, these are the most comfortable underwear I've ever owned. They cover everything that needs covering, and a bit more, and they stay put, no riding up. I never would have bought them if I'd seen them in a store but now I'm so glad to have them. They make me happy!
There's no real moral to this story except sometimes your bum is a bit bigger than you think it is. As long as someone makes the size that fits YOUR bum, life is pretty good! Sometimes it's the little things and the slightly bigger things...
